White Rose Bridal in Newark's Ironbound neighborhood carries Calla Blanche samples across all primary silhouettes, from structured A-lines to fit-and-flare styles to sheaths in French crepe and mikado. You can try them during your appointment without committing to an order. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
Knowing what to expect makes the appointment more productive. Brides who have done some research on how Calla Blanche's sizing and construction differ from other designers tend to leave with clearer decisions than those who come in cold.
Before You Arrive
Book in advance. White Rose Bridal is appointment-only. Walk-ins are not accommodated because sample preparation takes time. When you book online or by phone, note that you want to try Calla Blanche specifically, and mention any silhouette preferences or specific styles you have been looking at. This lets us have the right samples pulled when you get there.
Know your rough measurements. You do not need to have measured yourself before coming in - we take measurements at the appointment. But if you have a recent bust/waist/hip measurement, it speeds up the process of identifying the right sample sizes to pull.
Wear appropriate undergarments. Bring the strapless bra you plan to wear on your wedding day, or wear it to the appointment. Calla Blanche's structured bodice construction shapes around what you wear underneath. The fit reads differently without proper support.
Bring heels if you have them. Even a rough approximation of your wedding day heel height helps assess how the hem length reads. Calla Blanche sheath and fit-and-flare styles are particularly sensitive to heel height at the hem.
What Happens When You Arrive
You will be greeted by Barbara or a member of her team at White Rose Bridal, located in the Ironbound neighborhood of Newark, five minutes from Penn Station on foot. We will take you to the fitting room area and get your measurements - bust, waist, natural hip at the widest point. This takes about three minutes.
Based on your measurements and stated preferences, we will pull three to four Calla Blanche samples to start. We do not pull everything at once because trying on six gowns in quick succession makes it harder, not easier, to make a decision.
The fitting room at White Rose is private. The consultation is one-on-one or with your guests. You will not be sharing the space with another bride's appointment.
What to Try First
If you are new to Calla Blanche, we usually start with one style from each end of the aesthetic spectrum the brand offers: something in a clean A-line and something in a fit-and-flare or sheath. This establishes which direction feels more like you before we go deeper.
At White Rose Bridal in Newark, the current Calla Blanche inventory includes:
- A-line silhouettes in French crepe and stretch mikado
- Fit-and-flare styles with precise flare placement at the hip
- Sheath gowns in structured crepe
- Styles with Chantilly or Alençon lace detailing at neckline, waist, and hem
If you have saved a specific style from Calla Blanche's website or Instagram, tell us the style number or show us the image and we will pull that sample or the closest equivalent in stock.
How to Read the Fit
Calla Blanche uses Canadian sizing that runs approximately one size smaller than US sizing. When you try on a sample that is not your ideal size, we will tell you what the fit would look like if the gown were ordered in your measurements. A sample that is slightly large gives a different read than a sample that is slightly small - we will help you understand which issues are size-related and which are style-related.
What we are looking at during the try-on:
- Bodice closure: should close completely or within one inch
- Shoulder seam placement: should sit at the shoulder edge, not sliding forward
- Waist point: should hit at or within one inch of your natural waist
- Hip and skirt drape: for fit-and-flare styles, the flare should start at the natural hip point
If something looks wrong, we will name what it is specifically. "The bodice is pulling across the back" tells you something useful. "It's not quite right" does not.
The Decision Point
Most brides at White Rose Bridal in Newark try on four to six Calla Blanche styles in a 60 to 90 minute appointment. By the end, there is usually one that stands out - either because it fit the closest, because it was the most flattering, or because it was the one you kept thinking about while you were wearing something else.
If you are not ready to order that day, that is fine. Custom orders from Calla Blanche take four to five months from order date to delivery. If your wedding is more than seven months away, you have time to sit with the decision. We will note what you tried and your responses in the appointment record.
If your wedding is within five months, the decision needs to happen within the next week or two. Tell us your date when you book so we can be direct about whether you have ordering flexibility.
Ordering and What Comes Next
When you are ready to order, we take your final measurements and place the order with Calla Blanche directly. The four to five month production window begins from that date. When the gown arrives, we contact you to schedule the first fitting.
Alterations are handled in-house at White Rose. Most Calla Blanche brides need two to three fittings, spaced two to three weeks apart, before the gown is ready. Alteration costs are quoted at your fitting appointment -- ask your consultant for a full estimate.

If You Are Comparing Multiple Designers
Some brides come to White Rose specifically for Calla Blanche. Others are deciding between Calla Blanche and one of the other designers in the White Rose lineup. If you are in the second group, tell us when you book. A comparison appointment -- where you try Calla Blanche alongside Sophia Tolli or Jimme Huang, for example -- requires a slightly different sample pull and benefits from a little more time. Ninety minutes covers it if we know going in that you are comparing. Sixty minutes is tight if you are trying to make a meaningful decision across two or three different design aesthetics. Being direct about your decision process at booking makes the appointment more productive for everyone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I try on Calla Blanche without making an appointment at White Rose?
No. White Rose Bridal in Newark is appointment-only. Walk-in try-ons are not available because sample preparation and fitting room scheduling require advance notice. Appointments are available Monday through Saturday and can be booked online or by phone in about two minutes. Most appointment slots open up within one to two weeks.
How many Calla Blanche styles can I try on in one appointment?
Most brides try on four to six styles in a 60 to 90 minute appointment at White Rose Bridal in Newark. We do not recommend trying on more than that in one session because the comparisons become harder to track. If you want to see additional styles after a first appointment, we can schedule a second session.
What if the Calla Blanche sample does not fit me exactly?
Almost no sample will fit perfectly because Calla Blanche runs in Canadian sizing that differs from US sizing and from most brides' measurements. At White Rose Bridal in Newark, we will show you how the gown would read in your ordered size based on what we see in the sample. We use clipping and pinning to approximate the fit. This is standard practice for boutique try-ons.
How long after my appointment should I wait before ordering?
If your wedding is more than seven months away, you have some flexibility. If your wedding is within seven months, the ordering decision should happen within one to two weeks of your appointment. Calla Blanche custom orders take four to five months from order date to delivery, and you need additional time for alterations at White Rose. Do not wait if your date is within that window.
Does White Rose Bridal in Newark have Calla Blanche samples in larger sizes?
Yes. White Rose carries Calla Blanche samples from size 10 through size 22, with the deepest inventory in sizes 14 through 18. If you need to assess a style in a size we do not have in stock in that specific design, we will pull the closest available sample and be clear about what the fit read would be in your ordered size.
